What Does an Alternator Do in My Vehicle?

The alternator does more than many drivers even realize. If the alternator were to start failing, you would begin to lose the ability to enjoy even the most basic luxury inside the vehicle.

In order to function, the alternator is powered by a belt running to the engine, and basically recharges each time the car is running. As long as there are no issues with the alternator, the system charges and then provides power to dozens of other things in the vehicle.

Without a fully functional alternator, here are a few of the things you wouldn't be able to enjoy. The alternator provides power to the charging stations, the exterior lights, the air conditioning, the heat, power door locks and windows, defrosters, and the gauges on the dash.

Preventative maintenance is a great investment in your vehicle and will give you a reliable ride for many years to come.
